1. Dysphagia due to throat pain is the commonest type in general practice, occuring due to Acute Tonsillitis,
Pharyngitis, or Laryngitis.
PS. Ask the patient to open the mouth and inspect the throat using a good torch &
tongue depressor. If throat is not congested think of true dysphagia.
MANAGEMENT
. Adequate rest, avoid exertion
. Gargle with warm salt water
. Soft or
liquid diet, no chillies, no oily and irritant food
. Steam inhalations
. Tablet
Roxithromycin 150 mg twice daily for 5 days
.Tablet Combiflam (ibuprofen +
paracetamol) 1 thrice daily
2. If it is true dysphagia:.
. Do not lie down immediately after meals, take small non bulky meals
. Head high position at night
. Inj. Neurobion 2cc IM daily
.Mucain gel (antacid + oxethazine): 2 tanlespoon 2-4 hourly if regurgitation symptoms.
. Ask for Oesophagoscopy, Barium swallow, indirect laryngioscopy.
