Suggest Treatment For Strep Infection And Inflammation In The Throat

I just went to doctor yesterday, I have strep throat and an inflammation issue in my neck and received an antibiotic shot and steroid injection. Also put on Augmentin 875.. I am type 2 diabetic and my blood sugar stays between 140 and 175... I have not taken my Metphormin as prescribed for 4 months, duh?? My question is my blood sugar was 494 this morning. Could these meds and shots and infection have caused the increase?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
The reason why your blood glucose has not been controlled well and has risen to 494mg/dl could be due to non-intake of medications prescribed.
Added to it, infection would also induce certain amount of stress on the body and would contribute to further rise in blood glucose.
You need to remember that strict control of blood glucose is essential to bring down the infection promptly, as high glucose levels would precipitate and worsens the infection, which might be difficult to treat.
Kindly consult Physician and follow the advise strictly to counter the infection as well as to bring down the blood glucose levels and keeping it under control.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
