Suggest Treatment For Strep Throat And Ear Infection

My son age 5 has been diagnosed three times with strep throat and most recently they decided not to swab his throat since he also had a double ear infection. Hes on amoxicillin for 10 days, but the last time he had strep he also had petachiae on teh roof of his mouth and red bumps all over his body that didn t seem to respond to clartin which he takes daily. He also had a mouth sore under his tongue, and red eyes (but when i pulled his lower eye lid down, it was white - so not conguntivitis. I am wondering if i should take him to an ENT and see if he is a strep carrier because we are unaware of anyone else in his school or friends and family who tested postitive for the infection what are your thoughts?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
My thoughts after reading your history related to your son, who is 5 years and has repeated strep throat. Once he had petechae on the roof of mouth, red eyes, mouth sores and all as you have mentioned indicate that this is usually due to the bacterimia or septicemia related to any throat infection.
This sort of picture need the child to be investigated properly and I would suggest you the following:
Blood culture should be done in all such patients.
Throat swab to be sent for gram staining, culture and sensitivity to get a proper idea of the possible best antibiotics suited to have a curative treatment.
At the same time, he should be checked to see if he is suffering from any disorder or disease that reduces the immunity of the child.
Thirdly, the antibiotic cover should be given till he is declared as cured.
He has o avoid people with flu, avoid crowdy places like malls or so.
It would be worth to take an opinion of an ENT as well as Pediatrician so that nothing is missed.
