Suggest Treatment For Strep Throat And Itching In The Ear

I was diagnosed with strep throat yesterday. I ve taken two rounds of 500mg of amoxil so far; however my left ear is super itchy and extremely painful when I swallow. This pain started this morning and has gotten progressively worse. I have very seriously thought of going to the ER it is so painful. I have tried ibuprofen, heating pad, ice packs and salt water gargle but nothing has helped. Please note that the right side ear and throat is perfectly fine. Can you please help??

Hello,

In my opinion, you should start higher antibiotic for streptococcal infection because amoxicillin is not working in your case.

Amoxicillin clavulinic acid combination is far superior to amoxicillin alone especially in streptoccal infection.

So start this combination according to your weight. Also, do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day. Take an antihistamine (Levocetirizine or Fexofenadine) for itching.

Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
