Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I got diagnosed with strep throat and I have been on antibiotics for 48 hours now. At first the bacteria was only on my left tonsil but now it has moved to my right and I haven t seen much improvement in my health since I started the antibiotics. Should I see my doctor again?
* If there is not much improvement after antibiotics, there can be possible antibiotic resistance to the bacteria or diagnosis may be different than required therapy approach.
* In my clinic, I recommend a throat swab culture report for best possible microbiology evaluation and further guidelines.
Till that time, gargles with salted lukewarm water added peppermint oil 3 times a day will help a great deal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
