Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Bruising In Stump

I had my leg amputated to mid thigh. I was healing really well, and scheduled to have my prosthetic fitted. I am on coumadin. I fell and had some swelling and bruising in my stump. I am seeing a physician. However, I am wondering if I could apply some heat and/or cold to the area to facilitate the reabsorption of the bruising and swelling. Any suggestions?
