Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Indentation Above Shin Bone

My daughter was accidentally pushed into a metal bridge where she hit her shin. The area above the bone is bruised but to her right side is also swollen with an indentation. Not sure what to make of the soft area where it indents. She is not complaining of much pain and swelling is minimal.

Hi,

If your daughter hit her shin against a hard object, she likely has a contusion or bruising on her shin bone, which is causing swelling and bruising. The indentation you are describing may be due to the impact of the injury or may be a sign of deeper tissue damage, such as a bone or muscle injury.

It is important to keep an eye on the swelling and bruising for the next few days, and if it worsens or she experiences pain, it would be best to consult a healthcare provider. In the meantime, the following treatments may help alleviate her symptoms:
- Rest: Encourage your daughter to rest the injured leg as much as possible to reduce the risk of further injury or inflammation.
- Ice: Applying an ice pack to the affected area for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day can help reduce swelling and pain.
- Elevation: Elevating the injured leg above heart level can also help reduce swelling and improve blood flow.
- Compression: Wrapping the injured area with an elastic bandage can help reduce swelling and provide support to the area.

If your daughter experiences any worsening of symptoms or new symptoms, such as severe pain, difficulty walking, or signs of infection, such as fever or redness, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
