Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Itching On A Hips

Hello, a couple of days ago I fell off my road bike at 30 km per hour. The only thing I hurt during this fall was my left hip, wich appears to be only bruised. The first couple of days the center of the bruise was pale and there was no obvious swelling nor itching. Because I m a triatlete I couldnt stop training and after todays race the bruise appears to be larger, completely blueish, swollen and itching. Is this normal or Should I see a doctor? And is it safe to keep training with it?

Hello,

You are suggested to keep the area affected clean. Wash it with water and a medicated soap. You can apply ointment Thrombophob on the area affected, it will help to clear out the blood clots beneath the skin. Swelling and pain can be reduced by taking acetaminophen or Combiflam, one stat when needed.

Protect your wound, do not let it get infected. Do not scratch, pick or touch it. If it takes time to heal, you should visit ER, get your wound cleaned, antiseptic dressing done. You may need a course of antibiotics like Augmentin to help faster healing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

It is normal to experience swelling and itching as part of the healing process after a bruise. However, since the bruise has worsened and becomes larger, it is advisable to see a doctor to ensure there is no underlying injury or infection. It is also important to avoid further trauma to the affected area while it is healing.

Continuing to train with the injury may aggravate the bruise and delay the healing process. Resting and icing the affected area can help reduce swelling and discomfort. Pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can also be helpful. If the swelling and itching persist or worsen, it is important to seek medical attention.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
