Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In Ankles

I had ankle replacement almost 2 years ago since arthritis had eaten it up and I was nerve on nerve. Everything was going great but big toe joint later became red and swollen gout suspected tried a few things it got better. Have seen ortho surgeon pass few weeks, x-Ray done, etc. all was fine. I do have off and on issues but nothing serious. The past few days the inside area at my ankle joint replacement has been tender to touch and hurts to walk. It is slightly red and warm to touch. It is also swollen some.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you need to get uric acid levels to rule out deposition of urate crystals around implant site. Also local inflammatory arthritis may be ruled out. Implant site infection should be kept in list. Orthopedic surgeon review may be needed. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen along with antibiotics and local anti inflammatory drugs may be needed.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
