Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In The Rectal Area

I had an internal lateral sphinterotomy 5 weeks ago. I think I also have hemorrhoids as well. I am taking fiber and stool softeners daily and do have a bm almost every morning. My problem is that about an hour or so after a bm, I feel swollen, and very painful in my rectom and around where I think the surgery was. It feels like I need to pass gas but can t. After 6 -8 hours I usually start to pass gas and then begin to feel some relief. This is a daily occurrence. Any help is very welcome

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a perineal abscess. Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. Once the diagnosis of an abscess is confirmed, you have to plan for drainage of the lesion. Nothing much to worry and it can be done under local anaesthesia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
