Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain On The Tongue

A few days ago my tongue started hurting pretty badly. I have been taking 4 Advil every 8 hours to manage the pain, if I take any smaller doses it doesn t do anything. Tonight it has become extremely swollen and is unbearably painful. It hurts to talk, chew, and swallow. I m wondering if I should continue taking the Advil and let it play out, make a doctors visit to get it looked at, or go to the emergency room?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling and pain on the tongue which could be due to allergic reaction or side effect of medicines and it could be due to burning mouth syndrome and gingivostomatitis. It could be due to underlying systemic disease of body.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to apply topical antimicrobial ointment and drink plenty of water and fluids. Avoid hot, salty, spicy and sharp food. Eat yogurt in diet. Apply small amount of milk of magnesia. Apply ice to subside swelling and inflammation. Visit oral physician once and get your blood tests done and start treatment as per that as your blood count shows presence of infection in oral cavity. Apply dologel on tongue and oral cavity.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
