Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Redness On Fingers

I have had my mallet finger (pinky) splinted for 7 weeks, X-rays show no fracture.. my finger is still swollen and red, and tender, when I remove the splint it will swell up and begin to droop again. More time in the splint or should I go back to the doctors office?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

What you seem to have is most likely paronychia, with pus collection around your nail bed requiring drainage. Though this condition is painful, I find it odd that you do not have any pain in this finger. I'm unable to make another diagnosis at present based on your history. A personal examination would be the best.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
