Suggest Treatment For Swelling Bump On Temple

I ve had a tiny lump in the skin over my left temple for several years. It s never been larger than a BB and I never gave it much thought. About 4 days ago is started swelling up and became much larger and red and inflamed/irritated looking. Today my entire face is swollen around my left eye and I feel pressure on the eye. Family and friends say it looks like a boil. I m not sure what to do though. What I read online about boils says to give it 2 weeks before calling a doctor.

Hello,

I can understand your concern for swelling bump on temple with redness over the same. After reading your query I can make out that you have secondary infection of the previously present cysts.

I suggest you to meet your family physician immediately and don’t waste time. It si not a wise decision to wait for 2 weeks as the area is causing inflammation over the area too.

In my patients with your kind of condition I suggest them to do culture and sensitivity of the pus. After the exact sensitivity reports I give a course of oral antibiotics such as cefixime or amoxicillin or ciprofloxacin.

The swelling is due to inflammation and therefore I suggest my patients to take paracetamol or diclofenac or ibuprofen for once or twice daily.

Till that time I suggest you to not to pinch, pop or scratch the area. Also do not attempt any home remedies as can leas to further aggravation of the problem.

Take rest for 1-2 days to get earliest relief.

Take care.
