Read your query, as you have swelling in your gums and root canal treatment in tooth is needed dont be worried so much this swelling in gums can be due to Abscess formation in gums that is Periodontal abscess or due to Abscess formation at root apex of carious tooth that is Periapical Abscess . For this I will suggest you to consult dentist and go for Iopa xray of tooth if it is periapical abscess then go for Root canal treatment and if there is Periodontal Abscess then go for Curretage of tooth. In meantime go warm saline rinses , you can take antibiotic Norvamox or ofloz Oz by consulting with your doctor .
Swelling the gum and decayed tooth suggests abscess formation in relation to that tooth.
I would advice you to visit your local dentist and get it evaluated with a radiograph after which the root canal treatment can be confirmed .If the tooth is split ,it will be removed.
For sensitive gums, get your teeth cleaned professionally and then use a desensitizing tooth paste like sensodyne for a while and do chlorhexidine mouth wash gargling.
Hope this was beneficial.
Thanks and regards.
