Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Elbow

Two days ago the tip of my elbow was very sensitive and swollen. Felt very warm to the touch and like there was pus under thick layer of skin and could hardly touch it. I also had a temperature of 98.7. I put hot compresses on it that night an seemed better by morning. It was less painful but seemed more spread out. Today my temp is 96.1, I don t feel as bad but it still spread out towards forearm and seems redder and warmer. I tried taking some pics. Would appreciate advice. Thank you, Moises Marrero YYYY@YYYY

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is most likely a condition called bursitis which may be caused by trauma or by any other irritation of a cubital bursa, a small fat pad in the elbow. At this point, you should rest with an elbow, apply ice, take nonsteroid painkillers and elevate your arm and put elastic compress. It should lead to symptom improvement within 12 hours. Later, if there is no improvement, it would be advisable to do x-rays and see if fracture exist. Also, hematoma or seroma accumulation may persist and then elbow puncture and fluid evacuation should be done by the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
