Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Lips

My husband has periodic severe swelling of his lips. It is usually confined to one side of his mouth, both, including upper and lower lips. Yesterday, for the first time, it was his top lip only, and today just the right side of his tongue. It has always subsided as the day goes on, and is gone by bedtime. He tried Benadryl once and believes it didn't help him. He has many allergies, but none are anaphalyctic. Any ideas on this?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Swelling of the lips and swollen tongue with already known history of allergies is indicating towards Allergic Angioedema that occurs due to some known or unknown allergen only..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like RAST test, food challenge test can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now he can take anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Allegra and do cool compresses over the lips..
Please take care as so much swelling of tongue can cause choking..

Hope your query is resolved..

Regards.
