Hello,

Swelling is commonly caused by obesity, water retention, decreased blood circulation, CHF, Cirrhosis, anemia, etc. To reduce the swelling of the foot keep the foot elevated on a stool while sitting or on a pillow while on bed, reduce salt intake, massage, take regular walks & do exercises daily.

You may need Compression Stocking, NSAIDS, Calcium channel blockers, antidepressants are effective. Visit ER, get physically examined. Get investigations done, get treated. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
