Suggest Treatment For Swelling On The Ankles And Tingling In The Hands

Both my ankles are swollen! They are swollen all day. Also I feel my face is swollen. At night I am having problems sleeping. I wake up because both my hands are tingling. I do not drink or do drugs. I have been drinking water. Checked my blood pressure and it is 120/80. My pulse is steady and regular except when I walk. My pulse ranges between 86 resting and 136 after walking. I have been tired most days. Loosing some weight.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If the weight loss can be tied to an increase in activity or change in diet then it may not need to be assessed.

If there are none of these changes then it needs to be assessed by examination and blood such as complete blood count, ESR.

Swelling of the ankles can be due to: varicose veins, side-effects of medication (eg amlodipine- a blood pressure medication), liver or kidney disease, heart disease. In some persons, the exact cause is not found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
