Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Ankle Caused After An Injury

Hi, I fell down a flight of stairs on Saturday night. On Sunday morning my ankle was very swollen, grazed and bruising was starting to show. I kept my foot elevated and applied an ice pack. This morning the swelling seems to have reduced - although still looks very swollen, bruising has become worse but the pain is making me nauseous. Should I go to a walk in centre? Thank you Claire

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

As you have swelling, bruising and pain, I suspect a fracture at your ankle. I recommend the following:
1) For immediate pain relief, you can take NSAIDs like tab. Ibuprofen or tab. Naproxen.
2) Please do consult an orthopedic specialist for examination of ankle and necessary investigations like X-ray of ankle joint
Please go to the doctor as soon as possible.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
