Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Ankles

My husband has bad sunburn on bottom portion of both legs, ankles and tops of feet. Ankles swollen and hurts. Been treating with foot elevation, cold compresses, aloe vera and ibuprofen. Encouraging him to drink water no soda pop. Burn began friday afternoon.....it is now sunday evening, still has swollen ankles. He is over weight and diabetic. Swelling goes down a little from time to time. Will swelling go down soon?

Hi,

If there is no history of trauma then it can be due to gout attack or infection. Of you send a picture of affected part then it will be more helpful. Uric acid level in blood should be checked to rule out gout and blood routine should be done to rule out infection also. Taking Motrin (Ibuprofen) will be helpful to get relief. But in case of infection antibiotics will be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nishad BN
