Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Arm

yes my 82 year old dad had an iv in his arm since last thursday he was in the hospital. discharged on sunday everything ok. except this morning he woke up with a swollen arm where the iv was the entire arm and hand is swollen. he says no pain at all. how shall we treat this. with ice or heat. thanks
