Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Index Finger After Injury

Hi I think I sprained my index finger joint when falling onto it when falling off my mountain bike. It is very swollen and slightly painful, but not extremely painful unless I try and move it to the right and left. I can move it up and down fine. I am sure I have not broken it or injured it very badly but I do not know what to do other than apply ice. Should I tape it up and if so how?
