Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Penis Shaft

My nephew (16yo) is complaining of swelling to the shaft of his penis. His pcp recommended he massage the area, take a warm bath. After following those instructions he now complains of increased swelling with swelling that comes & goes in testicular area. His pain is 2-4 on a scale of 10 with 10 as worst pain ever. Should he wait for pcp appt tomorrow or go to ER?

Hi there and thank you for your question.

I appreciate your concern regarding the boy's issue and I shall help where I can.

I would suggest also using paracetamol and ibuprofen to help alleviate the pain and swelling in this case. If the pain is still severe then he should go to an ER immediately to be assessed further and have any medical emergency excluded.

Otherwise if the symptoms haven't worsened then I would think it's okay to wait to see his GP in the morning. They would then need to try and exclude an issue such as infection of the penis and/or testicles.

I hope this helps and good luck.
