Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Twisted Finger After Injury

2 months ago my finger got twisted up in strapping. It swelled at the time. I probably should have kept it immobile but didn't . I'm pretty active. Saw the doc 2 weeks ago. X-ray revealed crack in finger bone.
Finger is now splinted, but i'm not totally compliant since my knuckle hurts more after I take the splint off. My finger is still shaped like a woman with big hips with the painful side larger and red and I'd say shiny. Give it time and be more compliant? Get a knuckle work-up? Ice or heat?
