Suggest Treatment For Swollen Legs And Ankles While Having Achilles Tendinitis

Hi for about a month I ve had swollen legs and ankles and my skin feels tight. I m 46 years old, in the past year my stress level has increased considerably. I went from 200lbs to 250 lbs. I have Achilles tendinitis in both tendons. I just got back to the east coast from Denver. While I was there my legs and ankles were so swollen that I had pitted edema everyday for a week, my vision is blurry periodically as well. My doctor chalked it up to my weight gain, but now I m not so certain. Could this all be remedied if I lose weight?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Losing weight is a nice thing given all the health problems that come with overweight. However, pitting edema may not only be explained by weight gain.Possible causes may include:
-Achilles tendinitis given that you have a history of a long trip lately
-Cardiovascular problems
-Liver problems
-Kidney problems
-Venous insufficiency
-And others.
Only a physical examination by the Doctor with some tests may help ascertain cause.Symptomatic treatment of your condition without investigating cause is not always the best.I will advise you see your Doctor for tests like chest x-ray, ECG, liver and kidney function tests, urine dipstick. From the results, treatment will follow. In the meantime, the following will help clear your symptoms:
*Take a diuretic like furosemide
*Elevate legs while lying down
*Reduce salt and water intake
*Have your weigh under check
*Healthy diet
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
