Suggest Treatment For Swollen Lymph Nodes With Fever

I have been treated for two sinus infections since oct 2010. I would feel better for a few weeks after taking antibiotics and then back to feeling icky. I went back to doc in Jan. and he said i had a raw throat and thought I had mono but didnt test me for it since I am self pay. I completed my amoxicillin and after a few weeks went back because I still felt bad. He looked at my throat and said WOW, its still red. He couldnt tell if I was viral turning bacterial or bacterial turning viral. He prescribed me steriods and ciprofloxacin. I felt a little better and on March 10th, I went to the ER hoping to get a doctor who could figure out why I am still sick. I had a lymph node come up on the right side of my neck and the doctor described it as shotty. He tested me for mono, and it came back negative. He checked my WBC count and it was normal. He asked if I had cats and I told him yes, so he said I had cat scratch fever since I had been sick for so long. I started taking Doxycycline 8 days ago and hadn t ran fever over the course of my sickness until now. I have been running a low grade fever for 4 days, a have a red, circle patch that came up on the back of my neck since friday and its next to a lymph node and I have little red bumps, that look like little pimples that have started all over my body for two days. They don t itch, and are spread out. Should I wait for a few more days after I am done with this antibiotic, or go have some tests ran? I am so tired of being sick, please help.

Hello,

You have history of throat infection which never cured. The infection is spreading to cause fever with swollen lymph nodes. You are also having circular patch behind your neck and red bumps, rashes and pimples all spread out. Your symptoms may be indicative of scarlet fever since you also have a history of strep throat and now lymph nodes enlargements. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT.

Get the required blood tests and swab / sputum tests done. After sensitivity testing you can take penicillin injections or a course of oral penicillin for 10 days after local doctor consultation. If the infection is chronic you may need it for a longer period. You can take acetaminophen, one SOS when required. Take Zincovit, once daily for 10 days. Rinse and gargle your throat with warm salt water 3-4 times a day.

You can apply ointment Ring guard (ointment containing antifungals) in the circular patch behind your neck. Apply calamine lotion for relief in the bumps and rashes that are spread out. Take care of your hygiene and wash your clothes & laundry in hot water frequently. However, to be on the safer side get a complete medical check up done to rule out serious infections like immune system disorder, lupus, HIV, lymphoma, etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
