Suggest Treatment For Swollen Neck

My son, 18 yrs, has a swollen portion on the left side bottom of his neck (not under chin - closer to where neck meets chest). It is not painful to the touch. He says it feels more like when a chip is swallowed with sharp edges. He has had a nagging cough, stuffy nose and occasional fevers (100-101) intermittently over the last couple days, but this is the first day w/ this swollen, sore section. Due to finals & graduation he has not gone to the Dr. and been using OTC remedies & today some Vitamin C. Any ideas? Thank you!
