Suggest Treatment For Swollen Nodule Near The Jaws

I have a gland that is swollen below my jaw line. How can I handle this? Went to the doc on Monday and she said take Advil and to suck on lemon drops. Put heat on the swollen part. I have done this and it still is swollen especially while I am eating. Should I go and get xray or just continue on with what I am doing?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a swollen gland below the jaw line and increase in swelling while eating is a clear indication of blocked salivary gland duct of Sub-mandibular salivary gland which is a major salivary gland and any blockage in its ducts leads to obstruction in the flow of saliva from the gland to the mouth and there is back flow of saliva into the gland leading to swelling of the gland..

As the saliva flow is stimulated during eating therefore the swelling is also more prominent during eating..

The obstruction is caused due to formation of crystalline stones known as SIALOLITHS from the minerals present in saliva leading to blockage in ducts..

When the stones are small by stimulating the saliva flow like by taking sour candies or lemon drops can cause flushing of the stones along with the saliva out of the duct opening thereby opening up the ducts..

Sometimes the stones in superficial locations like in the duct area in the floor of mouth are gently palpated and pushed out of the duct orifices

But in case of large stones surgical removal is indicated..

A technique known as SIALOSCOPY is an endoscppy technique which is used to locate the stones in the ducts for removal..

You can take sour candies and lemon drops and drink plenty of water to try flushing out the stones but in case the condition does not resolve you should consult back the doctor and get surgical removal if needed..

Hope this information helps..
