Suggest Treatment For Swollen Papillae On Back Of Tongue In An Infant

Hello,

My 12 month old son has what looks like papillae on the back of his tongue a little to the side, I can only notice them on one side however, I'm not sure if it is because they at enlarged or not. They also seem to be slightly red. Its been this way for a couple of weeks. Should I be concerned

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain there is a group of papillae at the back of the tongue known as Circumvallate Papillae that are arranged in a typical v shape and are large in size as compared to other papillae throughout the tongue so they can be visible as elevated over the back of the tongue..
In case if they are also red then it can be due to burning with some hot food or can also be die to throat infection or allergic reaction to some food or medicine..
But in case if your son is completely active and does not have any problems like pain or anything else you need not to worry as it may be nothing serious..
I would suggest you to give him a soft diet and avoid spicy and hot foods..
Feed him with plenty of fluids..
Keep a watch over the papillae and in case if there is swelling or increased redness consult a Pedodontist and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
