Suggest Treatment For Swollen Tonsils And Muscle Ache

Hi, I accidentally left a tampon in for 4 days without knowing until I noticed a foul smell whilst still on my period. After reading how to remove a lost tampon, I successfully removed it. I have been feeling feverish, had muscle aches and have swollen tonsils which I thought could be tonsillitis symptoms developed after having a cold last week. Could this be linked and is there anything my doctor could give me?
