Hello,
As per my clinical experience, the
chronic osteomyelitis pause a significant decline at bone formation and an increased
bone resorption through inflammatory pathway and imbalance between
osteoblast and
osteoclast activity. The chronic osteomyelitis can cause significant ill effects as:
- Chronic low grade fever
- Impaired limb functioning
- Cachexia, weight loss
- Pus discharging sinus
- Erosions over bone surfaces
The treatment consists of:
- Sterile dressing of the limb area
- Prescription of antibiotics as per the
blood culture or wound culture sensitivity and specificity
- Control of systemic sepsis if any
- Supportive anti inflammatory drugs
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
