Suggest Treatment For Talking Difficulty, Cough And Phlegm With Pain On The Back After Swallowing Fish
My husband swallowed a bite of fish about the size of an ice cube .... He could breathe, could not talk kept coughing up phlegm, he tried to take small sips of water to soften it but it caused severe pain, then when it finally moved, (this took 10 min) he said he has severe pain in his neck and upper back... I wanted to call paramedics, but he refused to allow me.... He has been under extreme physical and emotional stress for the last 2 weeks, complicated by catching a cold or having an allergy issue for the past 10 days. Should we be doing something now?
It appears that the fish might have got stuck in the throat during swallowing. Coughing is a normal reaction and protective reflex to prevent it from entering the airway. Please allow him to sit up for at least 30 minutes and drink few sips of water. This will soothe his throat and allow any food particle to get washed through the esophagus.
If his breathing is fine then there is no serious concern. Please continue monitoring his breathing and if he complains of any difficulty then he should be taken to the ER. Most likely he might not have any breathing difficulty. For the complicated cold and allergy, I hope he is taking treatment and medicines as prescribed.
