I have had a sensation of intermittent itching accompanied by tenderness and superficial numbness on or around the cartilage part of my ear, extending to the mastoid, occipital, mandibular, and temporal areas. The numbness and itching sensations occasionally are felt down the neck along the spine and down the side of my neck as far as the clavicle. When I wash my hair, there has been a slight burning sensation (as though it were slightly sunburned) on the surface over the mastoid, although this sensation along with much of the initial tenderness has begun to recede; however, it almost seems slightly more intense in a now smaller area. The worst area of discomfort is now about the size of a half-dollar near the mastoid and, strangely enough, along the tip of my ear. The area that itches is also getting a little smaller but the numbness is still present from the temporal-mastoid area through the lower posterior and lateral parts of my neck. The skin of the mastoid area is also very sensitive when I comb my hair if it pulls at all. These symptoms began about two weeks ago and are all confined to the right side. Ibuprofen reduces the tenderness temporarily, which is the worst while I'm lying down and for the first part of the morning; this is also true of some swelling of the lymph nodes in the affected areas. I don't have ear pain specifically, but I have just noticed a slight feeling of sinus and ear congestion only as of this morning. I would very much appreciate your input about this. Thank you and have a good day.
