Suggest Treatment For The Presence Of Bile In Abdomen

I had an endoscopy..it showed bile in stomach (I did have my gall bladder removed 15 yrs ago)..the upper part of my stomach is bloated and feels full most of the time. If I bearly eat one day..it goes down a little. Can you get rid of the bile? Could it lead to cancer of the stomach? What is the best thing I can do to get rid of this problem?

Hi,

Noted your history of gallbladder removal 15 years ago, bloating of upper part of abdomen, feels full most of the time, wants to know whether this can cause cancer, wants to know the best thing to get rid of this problem. I would advise you the following:
- Upper GI Endoscopy to confirm the status of stomach, duodenum and oesophagus.
- To see if there is reflux of bile into the stomach causing bile gastritis
- Barium study for any reflux, any obstruction in small intestine that is causing bloating
- Stool tests for 3 consecutive days
- Tests of blood for liver, pancreas and thyroid functions
- Ultrasound of abdomen and CT scan if needed
- Opinion of a surgical and medical gastroenterologist


All these will lead to a proper diagnosis and thus allow a proper and specific management as per the cause found.
