Suggest Treatment For Thin Spine And Crumbling Vertebra

Hi, my dad has recently been told that he was born with a very thin spine and that his verterbra are crumbling away. They have said that they cannot do anything about it and that an operation would be very dangerous. He is in pain everyday all day and has been for a very long time. Is there anything that can be done?
