Hello, im 19 yrs old. Recently ive been having throat pains wich seem to have been coming from glands in my throught. The pains lasted about a month and 2 days ago it went away. Now i have a slight burning sensation in my head and i acasionally couch up flem that has a small amouny off blood in it. The right side of my nose is stuffy and when i put a piece of toilet paper in there in the top there is a very very small amount of blood onthe toildet paper. Im very concerened and need some good advice. I do smoke ciggaretts but recently quit. The burning sensation iny scalp has been going on for about a month now. What could all this be from? Is it possibly cancer or something?
Occipital neuralgia can cause intense pain that feels like a sharp burning pain in the back of the head and neck. Severe occipital pain may be so severe that blood pressure rises to extreme levels and may cause nasal bleeding though seasonal allergies and congestion may also cause similar symptoms.
To get relief from throat pain, you should gargle with warm water and salt. You can take pain relieving medicine like Acetaminophen or Combiflam, one SOS when required. Get clinically examined by a GP/ENT, to confirm occipital Neuralgia so that you can be treated at the earliest. You may have to get few blood tests and MRI to get a detailed study. In the meantime, take rest and get a gentle massage to relax.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
