Suggest Treatment For Throat Pain And Thick Phlegm

Hi my name is sheela. I have had congestion and excessive mucus. Saturday my throat started feeling swollen on right side and painful to swallow. Then Sunday evening moved to right side. Now its on both sides of throat and painful to swallow liquids and food. I have tried decongestants...now allegra and throat spray. I cough and spit up tons of mucus thick white like glue and then clear like jelly. I can t rest and feel tired all the time. I can t seem to get rid of it. I just got over viral infection now this! Help!

Hi,

Noted your history of painful swallowing, thick mucus, fatigue and got over viral infection.
Your symptoms indicate towards an infective pathology in the throat in the form of tonsillitis or severe pharyngitis.
I would advise you the following:
Take a painkiller with anti-inflammatory properties like Ibuprofen if it suits you.
Liquid povidone iodine gargles.
Prescription based antibiotic may be needed for which you should consult your Doctor.
Clinical examination, evaluation, investigations of blood and throat swab will help further.
Plenty of oral fluids to avoid dehydration.
Admission to the hospital if required.
