Suggest Treatment For Throat Pain While Swallowing

I was treated for strep throat one week ago with a three day course of Zithromycin. The white spots on my throat are gone and it looks less puffy, though a little red. The pain when I swallowed disappeared but in the last day or two, it hurts when I swallow though the only thing I notice are some bumps/redness at the very back of my tongue. Could that still be strep or could it be another type of irritation?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Bumps and redness at the very back of tongue can be due to swelling of the Circumvallate Papillae that are large papillae present at the back of tongue in a typical "V" shaped pattern.

As they are very close to the throat they can get inflamed if there is infection in the throat..

Do not worry as it will also get better as the infection will subside.

So my suggestion is to take another course of antibiotics and you can refil Zithromycin for 5 days.
Along with it you can also do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
Suck throat lozenges and drink warm water.
Avoid spicy and irritant foods, you will get better soon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
