Suggest Treatment For Throbbing Pain In Hand And Arm

i have had a really bad hand scince last thursday, it throbs and feels like a really deep down ache, that goes all up my arm, and shoots in the elbow, i havent fell or anything like that. went to a&e, and the doc said nothing broke, put ice on it, i said it is really painfull, and he said well "man up". it hurts even more when i go out in this weather-it really throbs!! would it be getting better by now if it was a sprain, i am twenty seven, and have two children, and feel useless with one properly working hand! thankyou for listening gemma.
