Suggest Treatment For Thrush On Tip Of Penis Head

Hi, for years I have gotten thrush quite frequently, and the tip of my penis head (or jap eye as it is known slang wise I guess) is red on a regular basis, looking quite sore. I ve had STD tests in the past and come back completely clear. Obviously after about five years of this now, it s becoming a nuisance so what can I do and what is causing it?

Hello,

You are suffering from penile thrush and having recurrence since five years. You have had STD tests done and the test came clear. You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, take regular bath and change clothes regularly. Get your clothes & bed sheets washed in hot water frequently. Never wear clothes on which you have sweated for a second time without washing. Wear loose fitting soft cotton clothes. Keep your private area cool and dry, fungus spreads in warm, humid condition. Change undies immediately if its not dry.

You can apply ointment clotrimazole on the affected area. You can also take a course of fluconazole for faster healing. Risk factors for recurrence for thrush are diabetes, control your blood glucose level at all cost, uncircumcised penis, poor hygiene, smoking, being immuno-compromised. Take home made nutritious food to boost immunity. Get clinically examined by a urologist, since you are suffering from recurrence you may be recommended circumcision.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
