Hi.
Was this (tight sphincter ) confirmed by endoscopy or Barium study?
If your Mother is unable to swallow solids, she needs fully investigated whether she is insured or not.

First of all upper GI Endoscopy has to be done to rule out a Web at the sphincter and dilatation is also done at the same tine- If the this a growth , it needs to be biopsied. IF a Stricture , it needs dilatation.

If the Endoscopy is normal Neurological evaluation is to be done and a consultation with Neurologist is a must.
I find this answer helpful
