Suggest Treatment For Tiredness And Depression

Hello, I have had Hashimoto s disease for over 30 years (I am now 52). For the last year I have been feeling horrible, tired, depressed, lost my spark (as my husband says) and other symptoms. I take 150mcg thyroxine every alternate day and 100mcg the other days. I tell my doctor and she sends me off for a blood test TSH. On September 2014 my TSH was 2.9 mIU/L On December 2015 my TSH was 0.90 mIU/L What other blood tests should I insist on? And is it worth me asking her about Amour Thyroid? Regards Shelly

Hello,

Since you have a history of thyroid, your blood reports will show fluctuating T3, T4 & TSH levels & that is the reason you have prescribed thyroxine, do continue to take thyroxine as advised by your treating doctor.

Tiredness, depression, fatigue, muscle weakness, weight gain, etc are few symptoms of hypothyroidism. Get treated for thyroid.

1. Thyroxine(Levothyroxine) works best when taken in empty stomach. 2. Maintain your body weight, exercise, stay active.
3. Avoid addictions if any.
4. Avoid junk food & stress. Take healthy food, fruits, berries, veggies. 5. Take iodine salt.
6. Follow hypothyroidism diet plan.

For depression, you may need some medications, but first visit a psychiatrist, get assessed & treated. Untreated thyroid problems will only result in worsening of the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
