I have a quick (within the past 24 hours) onset of pain in both tonsils (at least I think its tonsils, may be glands!!) with mild pain when swallowing. Also, slight headache all day and neck pain as well, especially uncomfortable when turning head in different directions and feeling pressure when bending up and down. I have a history of polyps n vocal cords, nodules on my chords and have had bad pharyngitis to the point of getting a steroid shot to alleviate swelling and discomfort. What can I do to stop it from getting to that point again?!
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have tonsil pain. The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards severe infection of tonsils also known as tonsillitis . Bacterial as well as viral infections can cause tonsillitis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay , because this infection can spread to the surroundings . Doctor may order certain tests like throat swab test , viral culture test and CT scan . Doctor may prescribe antibiotic course like cefixime along with anti inflammatory . In some cases surgery known as tonsillectomy may be used to treat tonsillitis. For now do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles . Avoid cold beverages and food .
