Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..
As per your query tonsil stones are calcified structures present over the tonsillar crypts and are formed due to deposition of food debris and dust over the tonsils which gets calcified and it is one of the most potent cause for causing recurrent infection and inflammation in tonsils leading to swelling over tonsils..
If you are allergic or more susceptible to throat viruses, viral
throat infection can also cause swollen tonsils or
tonsillitis..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated to know the exact cause of tonsillitis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
If is due to tonsil stones removal of the same by either the physician or yourself using a q-tip and preventing then from occurring further like gargling after each meal with warm saline or atleast normal water..
Take milk products in limit as they are high in calcium and makes more chances of stone formation..
If it is due to viral infection the physician can advise you to take antibiotics, doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalations, throat lozenges..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.
