Suggest Treatment For Tooth Ache And Swollen Mouth Roof During Teething

Hi there,
My 22 month old is teething 4 teeth at the moment, so she is irritable, clingy etc.
however, I have noticed that she has a swollen roof of her mouth, and very red. She is not drinking or eating anything, and hasn't for the past 48 hours. I originally thought it was just symptoms of teething but her pain has gone one for about 6 days now. She won't even suck on cold foods or icy-poles etc. Even room temperature water she won't touch. She was bleeding from the mouth earlier, and also has really bad breath. She has red bumps appearing on her chin and throat area, which I thought was due to excessive drooling. My doctor just saw her and prescribed Kenalog for the ulcers and keep up use of paracetamol and ibuprofen. He also prescribed amoxicillin for an infection. He didn't say what infection. please help! My little girl is in so much pain and the ibuprofen and paracetamol do not help her with pain at all. I thought maybe thrush but there is no white patches in her mouth, only ulcers and very red gums.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms your daughter is suffering from Viral infection known as HERPATIC GINGIVOSTOMATITIS caused by Herpes Virus 1 [HSV 1] Infection nad it leads to inflammation in mouth along with eruption of cold sores or blisters..

You should immediately consult a Paediatrician and get her evaluated and along with the medicines she is being given the Paediatrician may also start a course of antiviral oral and topical medications like Acyclovir therapy..

As she is not eating and drinking intra-venous fluids may be given..

You can do cool packs over her gums and the palate for relief from inflammation and pain..
Try to divert her attention and feed her with cool and bland foods..
Give her sufficient rest..
Maintain a good oral hygeine..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
