Suggest Treatment For Torn Aorta Spread To The Vein
My step mother suffered a torn aorta that has spread to veins etc. Surgery will kill her and they say she will likely die at some point. Can tear damage heal on its own or is this a certain death sentence as they are predicting. We don't know why she is still alive with the damage that exists and we wonder if each day she survives is just false hope. Trying to prepare for the worst hoping for the best. Can the tears heal or is attempting to medically manage her blood pressure to prevent rupture ultimately futile?
Hi, I have not completely understood the diagnosis, but it seems like an Aortic Dissection of the descending aorta. If that is true then strict blood pressure control would be all that she needs and with that she can live a long healthy life. If the disease progresses and she develops problems of pain or stroke, etc then you can also go in for Endovascular treatments such as Stenting. I can better comment if I can see the CT Scan report. You can send it on 'Ask a Specialist' section alongwith a query for me or a direct question in my name. Also, please tell me her age and other diseases if any. In either case, no need to worry as long as the blood pressure is in control. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
