Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
A meniscus tear is a common
knee injury. The menisci helps to keep the knee steady by balancing weight across the knee.
A torn meniscus can prevent the knee from working right.
Tears can be classified as mild, moderate and severe. Mild tear may have slight pain and swelling. This usually reduces and heals in 2 or 3 weeks with proper
analgesic medication, joint immobilzation and rest.
Moderate and severe tears needs to be intervened by means of repairing it.
Treatment may include:
1. Rest, cold pack application, wrapping the knee with an
elastic bandage.
2.
Physical therapy.
3. Surgery to repair the meniscus.
4. Surgery to remove part of the meniscus.
Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST) results in increased circulation to the injured area. As adequate blood flow circulation is critical to recovery, it acts as an adjunct therapy along with other means to recover quickly.
Surgery is done by means of
endoscopy through an instrument called 'arthroscopy', which is quicker, less painful and has better results.
Kindly consult Orthopedic Surgeon in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
