Suggest Treatment For Trauma In Pupil After Injury

My daughter got hit in the eye with a bottle of nail polish. There was no trauma to the head that could cause a bleed. However, her affected eye has a dilated pupil. Is this normal? Have worked in neuro tauma and know uneven pupils is a late sign of neuro compramise . She is fine though and did not hit her head??

Hi,

Any blunt trauma can lead to the dilatation of the pupil. The condition is known as Traumatic Mydriasis. This happens due to the direct injury to the muscles of the pupil that help it to constrict when light falls on the eye.

Depending on the amount of damage there can be complete recovery, or partial recovery. There may not be any problem with reading for distance or near. Child might experience some glare when she goes into sunlight. Using sunshade can help in such condition. No Medical treatment is indicated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
