Suggest Treatment For Tremors In An Elderly Person

Hi! I am a 51 year old woman in good health. I m active. I developed a tremor about a decade ago that has been progressively getting more pronounced. It comes from standing still and is mostly in my knees working it s way up my body. I also have poor balance (standing with my eyes closed and feet together or on one foot is difficult. Small spaces (such as dressing rooms and showers) tend to make it worse. Even moving around in my kitchen tends to make me feel off balance and I bump into things or reach out to steady myself. I m fine when moving and can ride my bike / walk / run long distances fine. Nervousness (such as speaking in front of a crowd) makes it worse. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Tremors may have many causes. One common reason is essential tremors which may run in families and cam ve worsened by stress. However, the loss of balance is something we need to consider. In such cases, we need to check for cerebellar diseases and neuropathies. So I would suggest you should meet a neurologist for proper assessment and evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
