I take 800 mg/day of carbamazepine for trigeminal neuralgia. Over 18 yrs dosage has changed. I have been told that the changes in my mouth are caused by this drug. Changes: sensitivity to all acidic foods--tomatoes, citrus, peppers, onions, vinegar, pickles, black pepper seasoning. Ulcer looking places have developed on the sides of my tongue. Dentist thought I was cancer and sent me to oral surgeon; no cancer, no explanation. Are these events the cause of carbamazepine and I a doomed to oatmeal, cream of wheat, cantaloupe, etc for the rest of my life?
